Lunar Courtship
Price range: £6.00 through £35.00
A preserved archival illustration documenting a rare courtship interaction between two mermaid specimens observed along a moonlit pier within the Western Shoals on the Palawan Coast, exhibiting chromatic tail patterning indicative of divergent identity markers.
Archive Record
Illustrated from compiled shoreline observations within the restricted coastal records of the Blackwood Archive, Lunar Courtship depicts a documented interaction between two mermaid entities encountered at the water’s edge under a stable lunar phase.
The specimens display distinct chromatic tail patterning, each presenting a unique tri‑colour gradient not previously catalogued within known siren classifications. Preliminary analysis suggests these markings may function as identity indicators or communicative signals within certain mermaid subgroups.
The encounter occurred at minimal distance, with both entities positioned upon a deteriorated wooden pier, partially submerged and oriented toward one another. Witness accounts describe the interaction as deliberate and unhurried, characterised by mutual approach behaviour and sustained visual fixation. No signs of territorial aggression, defensive posturing, or environmental disturbance were recorded.
The moon’s reflection across the surrounding water appeared to intensify the luminosity of both specimens’ tails, producing a chromatic distortion effect noted in several independent reports. Whether this phenomenon is behavioural, environmental, or biological remains undetermined.
